Minesweeper

Clear the board without detonating a mine. Reveal a cell to see how many mines touch it, then use those numbers to deduce where the mines hide. Flag the ones you find and uncover every safe square to win.

How It Works

Objective

The board hides a fixed number of mines. Reveal every square that does not contain a mine to win. Reveal a mine and the game is over. Your very first click is always safe β€” mines are placed only after you open the first cell.

Reading the Numbers

When you reveal a safe cell it shows a number from 1 to 8 β€” the count of mines in the eight neighbouring cells. A blank cell touches no mines, so its neighbours open automatically in a cascade. Use the numbers to deduce which surrounding cells must be mines.

Controls

  • Click / tap a covered cell to reveal it.
  • Right-click (desktop) or long-press (mobile) to place or remove a flag.
  • Flag Mode button β€” turn it on to flag with a normal tap, handy on touch screens.
  • Click a revealed number whose flags already match it to auto-open its remaining neighbours (chording).
  • N or New Game to reshuffle at the current difficulty.

Difficulty

  • Beginner β€” 9Γ—9 grid with 10 mines.
  • Intermediate β€” 16Γ—16 grid with 40 mines.
  • Expert β€” 30Γ—16 grid with 99 mines.

Timer & Best Times

  • The timer starts on your first reveal and stops the moment you win or lose.
  • Your fastest win for each difficulty is saved in your browser and shown as Best.
  • Everything runs locally in your browser β€” no data ever leaves your device.
